But those in the region won't have too far to travel to experience those countryside vibes, with the pub located in the heart of the bustling Black Country. Situated at the top of a new-build housing estate, it's a five minute's drive from Merry Hill and within easy reach of those arriving by car. While those relying on public transport can catch a four-minute's bus ride from the shopping centre to nearby Coppice Lane, and from there embark on a six minute's walk to the pub. For centuries, visitors have been attracted to the area for its salt springs, or salt wells, renowned for its healing water, and it's believed a tavern may have stood on the site since 1636. However the first licensed premises came in 1810, in the form of an alehouse, which bore the pub's current name. But the old Saltwells Inn was demolished and replaced by the current building which opened in 1939. Although parking is available on the nature reserve's car park next door, there's also ample parking at the pub itself - just make sure to enter your registration number inside to avoid a fine. Inside, there is a lounge and restaurant area for dining alongside a dog-friendly bar area for a game of pool. It's worth bearing in mind you can only by card for payments over £5 - I bought a diet Coke and a packet of Scampi Fries, which I thought was steep for £5.15.
