A NUMBER OF MEN HAVE BEEN JAILED FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN DISORDER IN BORDESLEY GREEN AS JUDGES HAVE SENT CLEAR WARNINGS TO PROTESTERS USING CIVIL UNREST AS AN EXCUSE FOR VIOLENCE 05:30, 01

Jun 2025 A handful of men have now been jailed for their involvement in wild violence in Birmingham during race-related civil unrest last summer. Bordesley Green witnessed chaotic scenes on

August 5 last year after hundreds of people gathered to counter a rumoured EDL protest, which ultimately never materialised. There was bedlam on the roads, particularly around

McDonald's on Belcher's Lane, before masses of people moved towards Yardley, where some laid siege to The Clumsy Swan pub, wrongly believing far-right activists were inside. READ

the doors, which had been barricaded by staff and punters. Prior to that, a driver of a blue Skoda had been targeted with his vehicle being struck with fists, feet and bats. Article

the road-side while their broadcast van had its tyre slashed. Many witnesses ran away from the carnage in fear for their safety. It was one of many incidents around the country sparked by

the tragic child murders in Southport. At the time, false information circulated online about the nationality, religion and immigration status of the attacker, Alex Rudakubana, who was later

jailed for 52 years. Things quickly snowballed, leading to clashes between far-right activists and those who opposed them. In the ensuing months, judges have sent the clear message that

anyone who simply used the situation as an excuse for violence would be severely punished and sentenced to immediate imprisonment Below are those who suffered just that fate for their

involvement in the Bordesley Green disorder. ADAM SAID Adam Said played a key role in the violence. The then 19-year-old college student borrowed a friend's blacked out Range Rover,

which led the gathering with people hanging out of the windows and off the sides holding Palestinian flags. He was involved in three major flashpoints including driving

'recklessly' amongst the crowd near McDonald's in Belcher's Lane, blocking the blue Skoda as it was attacked by a mob and dropping off passengers to join in the seige at

The Clumsy Swan. Said, now 20, from Washwood Heath Road, admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to two years and four months. MUHAMMED ALI Muhammed Ali was involved in the Skoda being

smashed up. Police tracked down the 20-year-old from Yardley Green Road following a public appeal on social media. Ali was convicted of violent disorder and was sentenced to two years and

six months. AMON BAHRI Amon Bahri was involved in the troube which saw protesters try and storm The Clumsy Swan pub as well as attack the driver of a Skoda. The 20-year-old, from Oak Croft

in Solihull, was convicted of violent disorder and jailed for one year and nine months. HARIS GHAFFAR Haris Ghaffar was part of the group that tried to storm The Clumsy Swan pub in Yardley.

He was among the marchers when a group of them broke off to attack a drinker who was goading them outside the pub. The 19-year-old did not take part in the assault but went to a side door of

the pub and started to kick at it, prompting others to do the same. Staff and customers inside the venue were petrified that the barricaded door would be breached but luckily it held firm.
