economy with restaurants, bars and ‘entertainment opportunities’. As the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported earlier this year Muse Places Ltd - Solihull Council's chosen
development partner for the regeneration scheme - submitted a planning application for the development. At the latest meeting of the economic development, managed growth and skills scrutiny
board members heard that Councillor Ian Courts - the deputy leader of the council and lead member for managed growth - had made implementing the council’s plans for Mell Square a key
priority this year. And Councillor Heath Delaney, the cabinet portfolio holder for economy, business and skills, revealed: “The council are working with Muse and the development agreement
was signed last year. “The hybrid planning application is going through the (planning) process and is targeting the planning committee in the summer.” There are planning committee meetings

approved, construction of the first phase could get underway “as soon as next year”. Coun Delaney said phase 1 and 2 of the scheme could provide approximately 500 new homes when completed in
2028. Article continues below And the councillor added that the scheme would in total provide up to 1,600 new homes and 11,000 square metres of commercial floor space once all of the six
planned phases of the scheme have been completed. Solihull Council’s cabinet gave approval to the development agreement – a contract regulating their relationship with Muse - last October
before latest public consultations took place in November and December. Solihull Council originally paid just under £35 million to take control of Mell Square Ltd in April 2021.
