month for households with kids. Article continues below The child element of Universal Credit is currently worth £292.81 per child per month for children born after April 2017. So for a
family of four, lifting the cap would bring in an extra £586 a month under current levels. The controversial policy, introduced by the Conservatives, restricts parents to claiming the
benefit for only two children. It means those with larger families have to make their money stretch further so it also covers their other children. Critics of the policy say it has left many
families in desperate poverty. They argue it limits life opportunities of children through no fault of their own, leaving them more likely to become trapped in a cycle of poverty. Article

backbenchers to tackle child poverty. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said the Government was looking at lifting the cap, and hinted a formal announcement would come later in the
year.
