We take a nostalgic look back at pictures from 1952. Laurel and Hardy had performed at the Birmingham Hippodrome after a tour of the country, and trams were coming to the end of the line.
The last tram rolled off the tracks in 1953, although many lines closed in 1952, with the No. 70 ceasing to run along Bristol Road through Northfield. The Onion Fair was going strong at the
Serpentine Grounds in Aston. This had its roots in the Michaelmas fairs going back centuries, and the Onion Fair precursors really did sell onions, alongside other things. People travelled
from miles around, even from France, to sell or grab something to spice up their basic meals. However, despite the change of 73 years, it's always nice to know some things still look
the same today. The Old Crown in Deridend has changed little, the front of Aston Villa. Solihull High Street may have become pedestrianised over the decade, but other than that, it has
changed little.
