AMY SCHUMER HAS OPENED UP ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE OF USING THE DRUG OZEMPIC TO LOSE WEIGHT, REVEALING SHE HAD A 'DEBILITATING' REACTION TO THE ONCE-WEEKLY INJECTION 22:26, 01 Feb 2025
Amy Schumer has opened up about her negative experience with Ozempic, a drug intended for type 2 diabetes which she used for its side effect of weight loss. The 43 year old comedian and
actress admitted to trying the medication, which contains semaglutide that simulates the hormone controlling appetite and fullness. Despite its popularity among celebrities for shedding
pounds, Amy experienced severe reactions including shaking, shrivelling, and vomiting, likening the effects to morning sickness from pregnancy due to a genetic reaction. Speaking on The
Howard Stern Show, Amy shared her ordeal: "I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy. "So, I tried Ozempic
almost three years ago and I was like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting - and then you have no energy." The mother of one, who has a five year old son Gene with husband Chris Fischer,
44, also mentioned that any weight loss achieved was overshadowed by her inability to leave the house due to illness. "But other people take it and they're all good. God bless
them." READ MORE Davina McCall stuns fans with 'unrecognisable' new look on ITV The Masked Singer Article continues below The actress, known for her role in Kinda Pregnant,
proceeded to jest about the anticipated effects of the medication, while emphasising how severely she was affected by her adverse reaction. She explained: "You're like, 'Wait
a minute. Can we slow down? ' The side effects are you have a better personality. I tried it and I was vomiting and I'm in bed and my son's like, 'Can you play tag?
' I'm like, 'I can't.' I was shriveling.", reports the Mirror. She did admit that she "lost 30 pounds so quick" and "looked great", but
added: "I couldn't lift my head off the pillow, so what's the point?" The GDF15 gene, standing for growth/differentiation factor 15, is associated with an increased risk
of obesity and has been identified as a cause of morning sickness in pregnant women. Amy has previously expressed her views on celebrities using drugs to alter their body weight. During an
appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in June 2023, the comedian accused her fellow stars of "lying" about using once-weekly antidiabetic injections for weight
loss. Article continues below She quipped: "Everyone's like: 'Smaller portions. Shut the f*** up. You're on Ozempic, or one of those things." She concluded:
"Just stop. Just be real with the people."
