It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker does indeed remain with loan club Anderlecht beyond the expiry of his arrangement this summer -
but it'll involve an acknowledgement on his part that a salary reduction will be part of any deal. Belgian Dendoncker rejoined Anderlecht, who he left in 2018 to move to the Premier
League and join Wolves - initially on loan - at the beginning of this recently ended season, having fallen out of favour and behind a host of colleagues - including his compatriots - under
Unai Emery. The midfielder, who still has a single year left on his deal with Villa, the four-year contract he signed when moving from Molineux to join Steven Gerrard in 2022, played
regularly in the Belgian Pro League; he made 43 appearances in all, including eight in the Europa League, and scored four goals. Dendoncker also captained for a portion of the campaign. Now
that campaign has ended, though, Dendoncker's own future remains uncertain. With little to no chance of him being reintegrated into Emery's squad this coming summer, something
Dendoncker himself admits to be the case, a new club is on the agenda. “That I no longer fit into the plan at Villa is a bitter pill to swallow, but also something I have to accept. Villa is
doing very well, with an incredible manager who I can't say a bad word about. He is the best coach I have ever worked with," Dendoncker told Het Laatste Nieuws. "I have one
more year of contract. I'm going back to England in the summer and then we'll see. In terms of stability, it's not ideal. Certainly not with two small children. It's not
pleasant. I have just turned 30. That's when you start thinking about what you're going to do after your career. "I still have a few years ahead of me. I want to end in style
and not regret anything. I want to feel good and wanted, by a club and a project, as a player and as a person and preferably no more loans.” That said, reports in Belgium - when summarising
this past season - have now suggested that Anderlecht could come back to the table with Villa. There was the option of a £7m purchase afforded to the club this summer, but while they
aren't likely to pay that money, they could yet retain Dendoncker, who wants to stay. It'd involve Villa being willing to sever ties with Dendoncker a year early and for Dendoncker
himself to take a significant reduction on his current wages. It those aspects of the deal were to align, then Dendoncker could stay put in Anderlecht, where he came through the academy as
a youngster. HOW DO YOU REFLECT ON VILLA'S SEASON AS A WHOLE? HAVE YOUR SAY HERE _Everyday, the BirminghamLive football desk strive to deliver all manner of news, features and
