Aston Villa set for transfer setback as £21m deal 'progressing well' The latest Aston Villa transfer news from BirminghamLive as Unai Emery looks set to miss out on a heavily-touted

dealCommentsSportBrian Dick Football Writer12:22, 03 Jun 2025Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia looks to have eluded Villa (Image: Getty Images) The prospect of Aston Villa signing Joan Garcia

looks to have diminished beyond the point of rescue with the goalkeeper seemingly destined for Barcelona.

According to Fabrizio Romano Barca are ‘advancing on all formal steps’ with both Espanyol and the goalkeeper’s representatives. He says the deal is not done yet and could take ‘some time’

but talks are ‘progressing well’.

‌ Villa, Arsenal and Man Utd have all been heavily linked with moves for Garcia, who has made 67 appearances for Espanyol including all 38 league games last season.

‌ Garcia, in the La Liga team of the season for 2024/25, has three more years left on his Espanyol contract but appears set for Barca, whose first choice Marc Andre ter Stegen missed big

chunks of last season because of injury.

Villa’s current No. 1 Emiliano Martinez could leave this summer; Martinez has been at Villa Park for five years since joining from Arsenal for £20m but, despite signing a new long-term

contract last summer, could move on.

Whatever happens with the Argentine, Villa will revamp their goalkeeping department following the departure of Robin Olsen who has returned to Sweden to play for Malmo.

These products are available for a limited time and have that wow factor that would be the envy of any supporter.

The first product we spotted is the wonderful Aston Villa 'dream scene' painting.

It depicts the greats of Villa past and present with the likes of Unai Emery sharing a conversation with Ron Saunders, and Peter Withe sharing a joke with Gareth Barry.

The brilliant dressing room scene is available on a 130 x 43cm canvas and comes with a souvenir booklet. There were only 150 of these made to commemorate Villa's 150 year anniversary.

You can buy it here

If you want a cheaper alternative, you could try the 90 x 60cm lithos print of the same scene, again with the booklet and a limited edition piece.
