Goalkeeper Joan Garcia is closing in on a move to Barcelona - which would signal the end of the interest in him from Aston Villa this summer transfer window. Garcia is currently with

Barca's Catalan rivals Espanyol, who secured survival in La Liga having previously looking as though they might be in for a relegation battle. A club academy product, Garcia was a

regular last season and impressed, catching the eye of many clubs from around Europe. Villa and Manchester City were both linked heavily with moves for Garcia, who has made 67 appearances

for his boyhood club including all 38 league games last season, but the 24-year-old looks like he'll be remaining in Catalonia. Garcia, in the La Liga team of the season for 2024/25,

has three more years left on his Espanyol contract but appears set for Barca, whose first choice Marc Andre ter Stegen missed big chunks of last season because of injury. Fabrizio Romano

reports: "The agreement between Barça and Joan Garcia on long term deal is now very advanced, almost done. Negotiations underway with Spanish GK with club confident to get his green

light in the upcoming days. Barca want to get it done asap and anticipate Premier League clubs." Villa are guarding against the prospect of first choice Emiliano Martinez leaving the

club this summer; Martinez has been at Villa Park for five years since joining from Arsenal for £20m but, despite signing a new long-term contract last summer, could leave in the coming

transfer window. Villa are after a new goalkeeper at any rate, after deputy Robin Olsen left to return to Malmo in Sweden, upon the expiry of his contract. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO HAPPEN IN
