When high school students on Nantucket tried to rent an Airbnb to throw a Halloween party and were ignored, they reportedly took matters into their own hands, breaking in and throwing the

party anyway.

Edith Stone Lentini, who owns the house at 20 Field Ave., received a rental request through the app that she deemed “sketchy” and ignored it, according to reporting by the Nantucket Current.

The message, obtained by the Current, said the user wanted to rent the house so her daughter could throw “a little Halloween party for her and her friends.”

“They just wanna do a fun dress up get-together to take some pictures and eat some pizza you know? It wouldn’t even really be a party. I will leave the house spotless and I’m sure nothing

will be ruined,” the message, sent on Oct. 14, read.

The next time Lentini heard about the party, it was just before 10 p.m. on Nov. 1, when the Nantucket Police Department called her to ask if she knew a party was happening at her house,

according to the Current. The teens broke into the house through an unlocked window, Lentini was told by Nantucket police, who responded to the area for a noise complaint.

The Nantucket Police Department is not releasing the police report from the incident due to the individuals being minors, but Lt. Angus MacVicar told the Current that officers are conducting

an “extensive investigation.”

Lentini rents the 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath house for $810 a night, according to her Airbnb listing, and Maury People Sotheby’s International Realty lists it for $5,500 per week during July and

August. Built in 1999 and fully renovated in 2024, the house is 0.3 miles from the beach and includes amenities like a screened-in porch, a patio with a fire pit, and an outdoor shower.

Online records show it was valued at $2.34 million in 2023.

Lentini, who lives in Armonk, New York, according to Airbnb, flew out to Nantucket that Sunday, expecting to find her home trashed, but was pleasantly surprised to find the teens had gone

out of their way to protect it.

“They took all the pictures and mirrors off the walls. They took all the pillows off the sofa and put them in the basement. They moved all the furniture aside, rolled up my white carpet and

moved it into the screened-in porch, and moved my TV,” Lentini told the Current. “As much as I’m upset about this, they did take care of the house.”

MacVicar told the Current the department has not yet determined whether charges will be filed.
