Google has brought 5G technology to its Pixel smartphone range, with the launch of its latest Pixel 5 (A$999) and Pixel 4a (A$799) handsets. The Pixel 5 will release in ‘Just Black’ and

‘Sorta Sage’ in Australia, with pre-orders open from today. The handset will land at retailers such as Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and Harvey Norman from October 15. The

new Pixel 4a with 5G is also available for pre-order now, and will be available from retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman and Telstra in November. Google states the new

Pixel handsets are not just “more helpful”, they’re also “more affordable”, concurrent with the financial impact of the global COVID19 crisis. Both products market “5G speeds at affordable

prices”, accompany selected free trials of various Google subscription services (e.g. YouTube Premium, Google One storage, Google Play Pass). Both smartphones pledge better videos with

‘Cinematic Pan’, with ultrasmooth panning. A new Night Sight in Portrait Mode offers the ability to capture blurred background portraits even in “extremely low light.” The products pledge

‘all-day batteries’, which are capable of lasting up to 48 hours with Extreme Battery Saver. Both handsets come with Google’s Titan M security chip to safeguard device data, also offering

three years of software and security data. The new Pixel 5 has been produced with 100% recycled aluminum in the back housing, with wireless charging available. Google claims the metal

unibody is capable of being submerged in 1.5 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes. Further information and full product specifications are available on Google’s website here. About Post
