The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has accused Apple of assisting US intelligence agencies to spy on Russian iPhone users. A press release put out by the intelligence agency said
they “uncovered a reconnaissance action by American intelligence services conducted using Apple mobile devices”, and that “anomalies were identified that are specific only to users of Apple
mobile phones” which it said is called by malware that “uses software vulnerabilities provided by the manufacturer” – in this case, Apple. “Thus, the information received by the Russian
intelligence services testifies to the close cooperation of the American company Apple with the national intelligence community, in particular the US NSA, and confirms that the declared
policy of ensuring the confidentiality of personal data of users of Apple devices is not true,” the release continues. “The company provides the American intelligence services with a wide
range of opportunities to control both any person of interest to the White House, including their partners in anti-Russian activities, and their own citizens.” Apple has issued a short
statement of denial, saying: “We have never worked with any government to insert a backdoor into any Apple product and never will.”
