WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR A large police presence was witnessed around Ashington this evening, with reports of armed officers and the police helicopter also being called to assist at the scene.

Photos from the scene show officers on Third Avenue, at the junction with Hawthorn Road. A white car appears to have collided with a traffic light at the junction. Photos also show a man

being put into a police car by officers. Police have now left the scene. Northumbria Police have been contacted for further information. We will bring you updates as we receive them.
