arrested following a police stand-off at a hotel which lasted almost nine hours. A section of Osborne Road in Jesmond was cordoned off this morning after a man climbed onto the Cairn Hotel.
Photos from the scene show a topless man standing on what appears to be the roof of a bay window or entrance to the hotel. Bricks also appear to be missing from parts of the building. Eye
witnesses say bricks and other debris could be seen scattered across the road. Northumbria Police said that the incident occurred after officers attended Osborne Road at 11.30pm last night
to carry out an arrest. It's reported that the man then climbed onto the building, where he remained for almost nine hours. No one was injured in the incident and following negotiations
with officers, police confirmed that the man came down from the building at 8.25am this morning. The cordon remained in place for a short time while debris was cleared from the area.
Article continues below A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 11.30pm yesterday, officers attended an address to carry out an arrest of a man. The man then climbed onto the
balcony of a building and began to throw pieces of mortar to the ground below. "No-one was injured in the incident and following negotiations with officers the man came down from the
balcony at 8.25am. He was arrested by officers and is currently in police custody. "A section of Osborne Road which was closed to traffic while officers negotiated with the man remains
