WAYNE YOUNG, 35, WAS FINED £150 AT NEWCASTLE MAGISTRATES' COURT 01:00, 28 May 2025 A Newcastle man has been fined for causing "serious alarm and distress" in a rooftop
standoff which lasted around an hour. Wayne Young sparked a police response after he was seen running "back and forth" across rooftops in Denton. Young, of Denton Court, Newcastle,
appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to be sentenced for a public order offence of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour. The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to the
charge. The court heard that on April 4 this year, police were called by a number of concerned members of the public. Ruth Forster, prosecuting, said: "Police were called to an address
on Denton Court by members of the public, who saw the defendant running back and forth across the rooftops. "Police engaged with the defendant, who told them he had nothing else to
live for and was going to jump. There was an ongoing conversation for approximately an hour. At one point he took off a roof tile from the building." The court heard that Young had 62
previous convictions for 145 offences. Michael Crowe, defending, said: "He is very sorry for the trouble caused. He has poor mental health and is now receiving assistance."
District Judge Paul Currer fined Young £150 and ordered him to pay a £60 surcharge. He said: "You caused serious alarm and distress to members of the public." Article continues
