THE INCIDENT, IN THE TEAL FARM AREA, HAS SEEN THE FIRE SERVICE WARN RESIDENTS TO KEEP THEIR DOORS AND WINDOWS CLOSED 11:28, 24 Apr 2025 The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service responded to


a fire at a recycling plant in Washington. The incident, in the Teal Farm area, has seen the fire service warn residents to keep their doors and windows closed. Northumbria Police and


Northumbrian Water are also in attendance at the scene, where smoke can be seen coming from an industrial building, and firefighters are working to tackle the blaze. A Tyne and Wear Fire and


Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that at 7.13am this morning, we received an emergency call reporting a waste fire in a recycling plant on Teal Farm Way, Washington.


"Eight appliances and a command unit are currently in attendance, with crews from Marley Park, Washington, Sunderland Central, Hebburn, Farringdon, and South Shields on the scene.


"Partners, including Northumbria Police and Northumbria Water, are also in attendance. We advise all residents to keep their doors and windows closed, and avoid the area."


Northumbria Police has also responded, saying that officers were 'in attendance to support TWFRS', and that further updates will come directly from the fire service. Dale Howey,


who is the TWFRS Group Manager on the scene, said: "We're currently dealing with the incident at the recycling plant here in Washington. We sent out the initial team but realised


we needed more appliances, with 32 firefighters making an attack on the fire at the height of the incident. Article continues below "At the minute we are working to remove the waste
