IT'S TIME TO HAND EACH NEWCASTLE UNITED STAR A RATING FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE ACROSS THE 2024/25 SEASON 06:53, 28 May 2025 Newcastle United ended the season in fifth place and lifted the

Carabao Cup this season during a campaign that will live long in the memory. But who was the star man for the season? Who shone across the 10 months and who did not manage to hit the

heights? Here we assess each player's contributions in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup after an enthralling season. And we'll discover my pick for the season's star

man. GOALKEEPERS NICK POPE 8 The 33-year-old England international had a bit of a roller-coaster campaign after suffering a knee injury mid-term. But he bounced back to show his worth with

eight clean sheets and some vital saves. He saved 71% of the 117 shots that came his way and made vital stops in the critical clashes against Chelsea and Brighton in the Premier League. Pope

got the nod for the Carabao Cup final over Martin Dubravka and proved his worth with a crucial save to deny Curtis Jones. MARTIN DUBRAVKA 8 The long serving Slovakia international was

frustrated last summer when Newcastle signed both John Ruddy and Greek stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos. But he battled for his place and took his chance when it came along, making five clean

sheets and saving 29 of the 41 shots he faced. Most memorably, Dubravka put in two polished displays against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-finals before losing his place. He could have

signed for Al-Shabab in January but opted for a new deal, something he may regret after losing his place to Pope the moment the ex-Burnley man was fully fit. DEFENDERS KIERAN TRIPPIER 8 The

34-year-old has been the consummate professional for Newcastle this season. He did not sulk in the summer when Bruno Guimaraes took the captain's armband and he did not complain about

starting the season as second choice to Tino Livramento. As injuries cut into the squad and Lewis Hall's season was curtailed because of a foot injury, Trippier stepped in and calmly

guided the team. Highlights include an assist at Wembley for Dan Burn and setting up two goals in an important win over Ipswich. TINO LIVRAMENTO 9 What a season it's been for the former

Chelsea youth player. Whether slotting in at right-back or left-back, Livramento has delivered. Tino made his England debut in the 5-0 win over Eire in the UEFA Nations League in a 5-0 win

and has been a steady presence with 36 senior appearances this season. LEWIS HALL 9 Hall's season was ticking along nicely until he suffered a foot injury in the 2-0 loss against

Liverpool. Having won an England call-up, Hall was very much Newcastle's main man as he weighed in defensively and made five assists. His cross at Old Trafford in the 2-0 win over Man

United to set up Alexander Isak was a real highlight. SVEN BOTMAN 7 A frustrating campaign that proved to be a stop-start affair for the Dutchman. Having recovered from knee issues in 2024,

Botman broke down a couple of times and never looked fully fit. He impressed in spells but needs an injury free pre-season and a good start to next term to get back to his very best. FABIAN

SCHAR 8 Brought all his experience to the table and weighed in with some big moments. Not least his late equaliser against Liverpool that earned a 3-3 draw in December. MATT TARGETT 6 The

2022 signing from Aston Villa made just four appearances and it is difficult fully judge a player who never got up and running. Suffering with a skin issue and the hamstring trouble, Targett

had to watch on as Hall and Livramento impressed in the left-back slot. EMIL KRAFTH 7 The reliable Swede stepped in when needed and never really let anybody down. Krafth knows his role at

Newcastle and made 18 appearances with the minimum of fuss. DAN BURN 10 You can't take anything away from Dan Burn in my eyes. Last season, Burn suffered some criticism at left-back,

but this season he has been a colossal presence in Eddie Howe's back four. His towering frame makes him an uncompromising unit, and his journey from Darlington to Newcastle is the type

of story that could make Hollywood! Ultimately, his goal in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool booked his place in Geordie folklore, but there was much more to his season. Burn was rock

solid at the back and proved to be the dressing room leader without wearing the armband. His England call-up rounded off a magnificent season with a new contract thrown in. The Blyth lad is

my player of the season for 2024/25. MIDFIELDERS JOELINTON 9 The Brazil international's absence showed how big a part he is for the Magpies in Howe's engine room. He got the party

started in August with the winner over Southampton on opening day and weighed in with four goals and three assists in total. However, it was his bruising presence in midfield that made

Newcastle a team that many opponents simply couldn't deal with. Forming a great understanding with Bruno and Sandro Tonali was arguably the key to success this season and he was

terrific in the cup final. SANDRO TONALI 9 Banned by FIFA and stuck in the stands in 2024, Tonali returned this season and was outstanding in every department. His attitude, contributions

and ability to sprinkle star dust on the hallowed turf at St James' Park made him an instant hit. He already had the backing of the crowd but his world class passing and ability to

dictate games from the middle make him a top class operator. Tonali bagged six goals from midfield and made four assists, a shot from an impossible angle against Brentford was my pick.

Unlucky not to win player of the season and comes a close second to Burn. SEAN LONGSTAFF 7 The Geordie midfielder did not start a Premier League game after the 4-2 defeat against Brentford

and his future is in the air. But he still played a role as a squad player and it was his nerves of steel in the shootout against Nottingham Forest in round two to keep Newcastle on track

for cup glory. BRUNO GUIMARAES 9 Appointed captain in pre-season, the Brazilian has not looked back after enduring a shocker at Fulham early season. Since then he has been more certain of

himself and grown into the role of skipper. Bruno netted five goals and six assists from the middle of the pitch but covered every blade of grass in a solid debut season as skipper. JOE

WILLOCK 7 The former Arsenal man had a couple of niggling injuries and still enjoyed some highlights this season, scoring in the cups at Birmingham (2) and Forest early season. But he could

not break past the midfield trio of Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton. There's no shame in that but Willock is a player that needs a long run in the team. Crystal Palace like Willock but with

a long Euro campaign ahead he is worth holding on to. LEWIS MILEY 7 The 19-year-old was always playing catch up after a summer foot injury endured while running in the off season. Another

who could not find his way past the midfield trio that had fans excited. His one and only start in the Premier League came in the 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest in which he scored. But he

was in and out the team and unable to enjoy the run he was granted in the 2023/24 season as a raw teenager. With a full pre-season under his belt, he could be ready for big, big things.

FORWARDS JACOB MURPHY 9 The 30-year-old has been a revelation at times this season and incredibly missed out on an England call-up for the June internationals. Murphy has made FOURTEEN

assists this term and also chipped in with eight goals. His goal involvement equates to 0.72 per 90 minutes. An important knockdown in the cup final for Isak is one of the big highlights but

what about his goal against Crystal Palace in the 5-0 win from an impossible angle? Murphy has proved his worth this season and stepped up to make the right wing position his own. HARVEY

BARNES 9 Write Harvey Barnes off in your peril. The forward made excellent use of his time on the field for the majority of the season, and fought back from playing second fiddle to Anthony

Gordon. Barnes is very much at home on the left and loves to cut in on his preferred right peg. Another to show a great attitude when not starting in the team and assisting Gordon at

Bournemouth back in August to save a point. When Gordon was suspended for his red card against Brighton, Barnes stepped into the void and was excellent at Wembley. With eight goals to his

name and five assists nobody can complain with his contributions. MIGUEL ALMIRON 5 It felt like Almiron had ran his race for Newcastle this season and so it proved as he was sold to Atlanta

United. Transfer listed before the January window had even opened, Almiron made just one start in the Premier League. A lovable character who had some great moments on Tyneside after joining

in 2019, but this season contained very few scrapbook moments. ALEXANDER ISAK 9 An incredible season statistically for Isak as he bagged 27 goals and six assists. He finished to only Mo

Salah in the Premier League and is now Newcastle's second all-time top scorer. It's harsh to be critical but Isak's form dipped in the closing stages of the season and he

struggled in front of goal. That said he still netted a couple of penalties against Palace and Brighton. Isak did not look fully fit and missed a couple of games with a groin injury offering

an explanation to his loss of form. But even then he scored what proved to be the winner in the cup final and effectively blasted Newcastle to glory. He also wins my goal of the season

after his Leazes End thunderbolt against Liverpool in the 3-3 draw. CALLUM WILSON 6 Wilson was fit and available from February onwards after awful luck with injuries. He netted what could be

his last goal for Newcastle at Birmingham in the FA Cup. His presence and experience in the squad counts for a lot but he has admitted himself that his lack of Premier League form is

"unheard of". WILLIAM OSULA 8 A man for today, and tomorrow. Osula is an exciting star at Newcastle and at 6ft 4in is capable of terrifying defences. Goals against Bromley and

Ipswich and some quality cameos suggest the future is in good hands. ANTHONY GORDON 8 Let's not forget Gordon had a decent start to the season with important goals against the likes of

Aston Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham. Still a young player at just 24 and the best should be to come. His red card against Brighton sucked the life out of his season before a knock with

England against Albania in the World Cup qualifiers followed. A poor second half of the season in truth but I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and high mark reflects

first part of the campaign. Article continues below RATE THE PLAYERS Here's your chance to rate the Newcastle players after a season to remember.
