Liam Delap have been dashed, with the 22-year-old reportedly opting for a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea. The Magpies has spoken to Delap's representatives over a potential
deal, with the youngster able to leave Portman Road on a £30m deal this summer. However, they were one of several clubs to have held talks, with Manchester United keen to bring him to Old
Trafford as part of Ruben Amorim's summer rebuild. Reports today suggest the England Under-21 forward has decided on a move to Stamford Bridge to join up with Enzo Maresca's
Chelsea. Newcastle are in the market for a back-up striker to Alexander Isak, but face a difficult task of finding a candidate good enough to step into the side when the Swede is unavailable
or rested, but willing to play second fiddle for the majority of the season. Delap had been identified as someone with strong potential after scoring 12 times for Ipswich this season
despite their battle with relegation. He was a key man for Kieran McKenna in the past 12 months, but was granted permission to speak to clubs after they dropped into the Championship. United
have Will Osula and Anthony Gordon who can play as a central striker, with Callum Wilson expected to leave St James' Park when his contract expires at the end of June. Delap was keen
to resolve his future before joining up with the England squad ahead European Under 21 Championships, where he will feature alongside Newcastle's Tino Livramento. Article continues
below Everton have also held talks, with reports earlier this week suggesting it had become a straight battle between Manchester United and Chelsea - with the Blues seemingly emerging as
winners. The transfer window opens for 10 days on June 1 ahead of the Club World Cup, but will close again after that brief trading period, only to reopen on Monday, June 16. Newcastle are
expected to be active in the summer window, with Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo reportedly key targets for Eddie Howe. Sporting director Paul Mitchell
