SUNDERLAND ARE SET TO HOLD CONTRACT TALKS WITH DAN NEIL THIS SUMMER WHO IS NOT SHORT OF TRANSFER INTEREST 16:40, 01 Jun 2025 Serie A side AS Roma are reportedly keen on a £15 million move
for Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil this summer, according to reports. The Black Cats academy graduate was one of the star performers for his side last season, helping his boyhood club win
promotion back to the Premier League. Neil turned down a new contract with the Wearsiders last summer amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the search for a new head coach. However, both
parties were relaxed about the situation, with Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman admitting he was keen to start contract talks with the midfielder once the season was over.
Now, The Sun claims the Ialian outfit are keen on a move for the midfielder, with British midfielders respected in the Italian top flight after the success of Scott McTominay and Billy
Gilmour. Neil is entering the final 12 months of his contract and has been admired by a number of top clubs in recent seasons. Article continues below After finishing fifth last season, Roma
are expected to unveil former Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini as head coach. Sunderland full-back Dennis Cirkin is also in the final 12 months of his contract, but Speakman, was relaxed
about talks back in February. The Black Cats chief said: "We’ve had those conversations with the guys. "There’s no question over Dennis or Dan’s commitment to Sunderland. But I
don’t think at the minute, it’s the right moment to be getting into too much of a conversation with them. "That’s really just down to the short time period we’ve got to the summer.
We’ve got so much to achieve, and we need to stay focused. Dan’s our captain. "I think he’s grown into that captaincy role and, as the season has gone on, has become more and more
influential. Article continues below "At the minute, we’re really comfortable with where he’s at, we’re just zoned in and focused on these remaining games." Sunderland are expected
to hold talks with Neil in the coming weeks, with the 23-year-old currently on his end of season holidays after winning promotion last weekend. The Black Cats will be keen to keep the bulk
of their squad together for life in the Premier League, with Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt in talks with Jobe Bellingham over a possible move to the Bundesliga.
