Welcome back to 2011. If you were a regular around town then you might recognise someone you know amongst the faces featured in these 10 photos. Perhaps you will even spot yourself. These
images were taken 14 years ago by Chronicle photographers in and around Newcastle for our weekly Bigg Night Out series which originally ran from 1999 until 2012. Most of their focus would be
around the Bigg Market area which was always packed out with people enjoying the big night out at the end of the working week. Having delved into the archives, we here are giving another
showing to happy scenes which were all snapped that year during the month of May and appeared in the paper soon afterwards. As usual we also like to set the background to the time to help
jog those memories even more. So, in the charts that month was Adele's Someone Like You while other singles to come out just before included rapper Wretch 32's Unorthodox, with
Example, and Yasmin's Finish Linea. Remember those? Ok, so how about these films then from May 14 years ago: Thor; Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - the fourth film in the
franchise - and The Hangover Part II? And with the end of spring there was to be quite some summer to come. That year saw the second warmest summer on record for the UK, with the Met Office
recording an average temperature of 9.62C (49.3F) in 2011, just below the-then 2006 record average temperature of 9.73C (49.5F). That's been surpassed since, with an average temperature
recorded in 2022 of a whopping 10.03°C (50F) - who said you should never complain about the weather?
