STANFORD, Calif., Nov 12, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Hoover Institution today released Reforming America's Health Care System: The Flawed Vision of ObamaCare, edited by Scott Atlas,
MD. In this book, health policy experts Atlas, Richard A. Epstein, Nadeem Esmail, Helen Evans, PhD, Scott Gottlieb, MD, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Roger Stark, MD, Grace-Marie Turner, and Glen
Whitman discuss both what to expect from the recent health reform legislation and which alternatives should still be considered. Reforming America's Health Care System offers a critical
assessment of important parts of the newly enacted health care law. Specifically, this book analyzes the individual mandate to buy insurance, threats to medical innovation, the lack of
choices for consumers, and the complexities of medical malpractice reform. The authors also examine lessons learned from America's own state health reforms, the consequences of
government control on access to care in Canada, and the impact of government oversight of health care effectiveness in the UK and Western Europe. The authors emphasize that, although
government can be a positive piece of the health care puzzle, empowering individuals and facilitating competition in the private sector will ultimately provide more choices, better and
higher-quality care, and effective cost competitiveness. Reforming America's Health Care System claims that, were Congress to enact reforms that remove artificial barriers to
competition, reduce mandates, increase transparency, and shift control of the health care dollar to the consumer, private-sector creativity would generate innovative, low-cost insurance that
Americans would value. Such reforms would reduce the number of uninsured, increase individual choice, and empower Americans to make value- and cost-based decisions for their families. Atlas
