NEW DELHI, Oct 8 (Reuters) - An Indian ministerial panel onMonday gave the go ahead to a proposal to charge mobile phonecarriers a one-time fee for their existing second-generationairwave
holdings based on a price to be determined by anupcoming auction, a TV channel reported quoting the lawminister. The move will affect older carriers including Bharti Airtel and
Vodafone's Indian unit that are not hit bya Supreme Court order to revoke permits in a scandal-tainted2008 sale and are not required to bid in the auction. The ministerial panel has
recommended to the federal cabinetthat companies be asked to pay for airwaves beyond 4.4 megahertz at the auction-determined price for the remaining validityof their licence periods, CNBC
