A Coventry thief who targeted shops across the city has been jailed. Guards at one of the retailers he targeted recognised him from an appeal shared on Facebook. Police identified Mark
Devine as being responsible for a spate of thefts in Cheylesmore, Earlsdon and Whoberley. Cops recently issued a Facebook appeal to find the 49-year-old. Security at one of the city stores
recognised Devine and quickly dialled 999. Officers arrived in a matter of minutes, and the 49-year-old was arrested on Monday (May 26). READ MORE: BUCKS COVENTRY CLOSING FOR GOOD IN JUST
DAYS AFTER 'INCREDIBLE JOURNEY' Devine was subsequently charged with theft from a shop, handling stolen goods, and possession of a blade, Coventry Police said. He was convicted at
Coventry Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (May 27) and sentenced to 14 weeks in jail. He is also subject to a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). It bans him from entering any
Christian place of worship in Coventry following a theft he committed in 2024. A spokesman for Coventry Police said: “We know how disruptive persistent shop thefts can be for businesses, and
we are taking action against known offenders. Over the last few months, we have jailed dozens of offenders as well as issued CBOs against them. “Orders allow us to impose restrictions on
where a person is allowed to go. By banning them from areas where they are known to offend, we can arrest and prosecute known prolific offenders more easily.” SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE DAILY
