New coventry lord mayor continues legacy of late mum and says 'very proud'

Cllr Rachel Lancaster said she is 'looking forward' to meeting people across the city as she begins her tenure as the Lord Mayor of Coventry. She was inaugurated in a ceremony at


Coventry Cathedral. Cllr Lancaster was raised in Holbrooks and attended John Shelton Community Primary School and President Kennedy School. She is the second woman in her family to serve on


Coventry City Council, continuing the legacy of her late mother, Margaret. During her 17 years at Coventry City Council, Cllr Lancaster has held many positions, including Cabinet Member for

THEY SAY 'UTMOST PRIORITY' Outside of Coventry City Council, Cllr Lancaster has worked with not-for-profit organisations across the city, including the Coventry Independent Advice


Service and Coventry and District Credit Union. She was appointed alongside Cllr Roger Bailey, who took on the job of Deputy Lord Mayor of Coventry. Cllr Lancaster said: “We have created a


remarkable city by working together as a community, and in my year I will celebrate that work and the people and organisations that make it possible. “I feel extremely proud that I have been


given the opportunity to serve Coventry in this way, and I am looking forward to meeting some of the many people out there who help to make it home.” Her chosen charity for her year in
