away from the royal family. The Duke of Sussex, 36, is currently living in his $14 million Montecito mansion with Meghan Markle, 38, and their eighteen-month-old son Archie, having stepped
back from royal duty in March. According to Newsweek, after permanently settling in America on March 26, the father-of-one has now spent at least 265 days away from the UK which is his
longest period out of the country. Previously, the duke travelled in Australia and Africa for 262 days during his gap year in 2005. Prince Harry and Meghan announced their plans to take a
six week break from royal duty last November, before they travelled to Canada where they spent Thanksgiving and Christmas. The couple then revealed that they would be stepping back as senior
working royals in January. They returned to the UK for their farewell tour, performing their final royal engagement on March 9 during the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.
While the date they left the UK was not formally announced, Prince Harry and Meghan's biography Finding Freedom states that the Duke flew back to Canada on March 12. Reports arose on
March 26 that the Duke and Duchess had 'settled in the US' after moving from their previous base on Vancouver Island. While the Duke spent time away during his one year break
after school in Australia and Africa in 2004, his current stretch on American soil is his longest away from the UK. He spent time away from British soil when he performed two tours of
Afghanistan, spending ten weeks in Helmand Province in 2008 before he had a four-month tour at Camp Bastion from September 2012 to January 2013. It is currently unknown when the Duke and
Duchess will return to the UK, after they reportedly handed the keys of Frogmore Cottage over to Princess Eugenie after clearing out the property 'in the dead of night.' Prince
Harry and Meghan were said to have emptied the house in what an insider claims is a 'pretty strong sign' the couple have 'no plans to return.' It has been reported that
Harry and Meghan are 'looking forward' to celebrating their first holiday with their 18-month-old son Archie in their new home. Vanity Fair's Katie Nicholl said the Sussexes
are excited for their first American Christmas living in California. It will mark the second year the couple will have spent the holiday away from the Queen, 94, and other royals — having
reportedly spent the last festive season with Meghan's mother Doria Ragland and their son in Canada. The royal expert went on to report that the news would likely be
'disappointing' for the monarch who is 'missing' Harry and her great-grandson Archie, whom she has not seen for a year. Sources said Prince Harry had no plans to cross
the Atlantic any time soon because of the COVID-19 crisis. The insider explained: 'Global travel has been made very complicated by the coronavirus pandemic and at the moment the duke
has no plans to travel back to the UK, certainly not before Christmas.'
