THE TITLE-WINNING BOSS HAS FALLEN DOWN THE LIST OF CANDIDATES IN RECENT DAYS AMID THE EMERGENCE OF DAVIDE ANCELOTTI AND RUSSELL MARTIN 07:14, 29 May 2025Updated 19:37, 29 May 2025 Dave King
has declared that the Rangers takeover crew should consider Steven Gerrard as their next boss - but the reason an appointment could be swerved has been floated. The former Ibrox boss has
been the runaway favourite with bookies once again and was under firm consideration by Kevin Thelwell and the new decision-makers at Ibrox. However, the focus appears to have narrowed from
the search committee with Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin set to present their plan to takeover kingpin Andrew Cavenagh. King has urged the US tycoon to reconsider the Liverpool icon -
branding the Premiership winning boss the safest bet as boss. The Mirror reports that Gerrard was already putting plans in place for taking charge - and was "keen" on bringing in
Jordan Henderson from Ajax as his first signing. Celtic diehard Alan Brazil went public with what sources had told him - claiming former Light Blues' midfielder Steven Davis was set to
join Gerrard in the dugout before talks "stalled". Discussing the potential of Henderson going back to Sunderland this summer - with The Black Cats now viewed as the
"preferred" destination - Brazil said on talkSPORT: "Is he? I was told last week that it was Gerrard, Steven Davis and Jordan Henderson going to Rangers. "It looks as if
that has stalled now, and I don't know whether it is to do with money or what. "That was from a decent source as well, it wasn't just from any guy in the pub - it was a proper
guy - who said that is what he has heard." The Times report that former Southampton boss Martin, Brian Priske and Gerrard "are still in the frame" with Ancelotti to become
Philippe Clement's permanent successor with club sources insisted "that there is still no preferred candidate." Speculation over Gerrard surfaces with the Ibrox
decision-makers facing a tight deadline to make their call. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed that frontrunner Ancelotti could walk away from talks if a deal isn't
reached by the end of this week or by the first week of June "at the latest" It is claimed that at least three other clubs are showing interest in the former Real Madrid assistant
- with reports in Germany suggesting RB Leipzig as a destination. Follow _RECORD SPORT_ on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on
