An arrest has been made after a car reportedly hit multiple pedestrians in a busy UK high street. According to police reports, a car has reportedly collided with several pedestrians in


Leicester city centre after witnesses called the police to De Montfort Street at around 12.30am early on Saturday morning (May 31). Two men and two women were left injured in the collision


and all four were rushed to hospital - three with serious injuries and one person with minor injuries. Currently, a 31-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of causing


grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was straight away taken into police custody, where he remains, and is being questioned by detectives.


Investigations are currently underway, but police believe the incident happened due to a fight at a private event in the same location, reports detail. The 31-year-old man and the four


pedestrians were all at the private event before the collision, the initial report detailed. Details on the car model have not been confirmed, but police say they found it in nearby Margaret


Street and it has been recovered as part of the investigation. Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall of Leicestershire Police said: "We understand the serious concern there will be


about this incident. "Four people currently remain in hospital and an investigation is ongoing as we continue to establish the full circumstances and the events leading up to this


incident. A man remains in police custody and will be questioned by officers. "A large cordon is in place in the area of De Montfort Street and will remain while enquiries, including


forensic investigations, are carried out. "We do ask that people do not speculate about this incident, including on social media, in order to allow a thorough investigation to take


place. We have officers at the scene carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance. Please do speak with them regarding any information you may have or any concerns you may have.


"You can also contact police on 101, quoting incident number 27 of 31 May." It is understood that residents will not be able to access De Montfort Street while investigations are
