Liverpool FC has released a statement following horrific scenes of a car ploughing into fans during celebrations for the club's Premier League victory. The club posted on X: "We
are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening. "Our thoughts and prayers
are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. "We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this
incident." Dozens of people are said to have been hurt after Merseyside Police were contacted just after 6pm following reports of a car colliding with a number of pedestrians in the
city. A 53-year-old man white British man from the Liverpool area was later detained by police. The black car appeared to keep accelerating after it had hit fans and distressing footage
showed one fan on the bonnet of the car as it sped up. The car stopped in the crowd and its back window had been smashed with more footage showing fans surrounding the car with police among
the thrones of people. A number of people are reported to have received treatment at a nearby restaurant and one eye-witness spoke to Sky News at the scene to say she had to "jump out
of the way". Chelsea Yuen said: "We were literally like sardines walking up the street, and then we heard beeping and screaming and when we looked up, there was a black, people
carrier, driving straight towards us. "Me and my friend Francesca jumped out the way and pulled her little girl out the way." Another eyewitness at the celebrations told ITV what
he saw and described the "pop, pop, pop" of people being knocked over. Harry Rashid, 48, from Solihull, said: "It happened about 10 feet away from us. It was extremely fast.
Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car." Mr Rashid, who was there with his daughter, added: “They were just innocent people,
just fans going to enjoy the parade." The Prime Minster, Sir Keir Starmer, has also released a statement and described the scenes as "appalling". He said: "The scenes in
Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. "I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking
incident. "I'm being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate." THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS STORY AND IS BEING CONSTANTLY
