PLENTY OF PEOPLE DON'T WAIT UNTIL 5PM TO CLOCK OFF WORK, INSTEAD CALLING IT A DAY AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY. AND DESPITE THEIR REPUTATION FOR BEING HARD WORKERS, NORTHERNERS ARE THE
WORST FOR IT STIAN ALEXANDER 15:42, 30 May 2025 Northerners clock-off work earlier than any other Brits. Rather than waiting until the end of the working day - 5pm for most folk - those
working from home in the North West, North East and Yorkshire & Humber are more likely to ‘call it a day’ at least 15 minutes before. A poll of 2,000 workers from up and down the country
found that, rather than live up to their reputation as ‘hard workers’, northerners are, in fact, more likely to ‘down tools’ ahead of time. A whopping 54% of those from the North West -
which includes Manchester and Liverpool - confessed to knocking work on the head at 4.45pm or earlier most days. The study by activity bar brand Lane7 found that those from the East of
England were the least likely to dodge work, with just 25% admitting they called it a day early. Article continues below It also found that 38% of those polled said that work from home had
signalled the end of a post-work drink in the boozer, with workers scattering to the winds as soon as they shut their laptop. Alex Finlayson, 26, of Sunderland, said he used ‘any old excuse’
to down tools early. The digital design assistant said: “When it gets to 4.30pm I start thinking up excuses to knock off a bit early. “I’ve used up all the likely ones, family crisis,
dentist, doctor, feeling ill - but last time I was simply honest and suggested everyone meet up for a drink at 5pm and the bosses were totally up for it.” A spokesman for Lane7 said: “Our
research has found that Northerners are more likely to clock off work early when working from home.” In a bid to get workers out with colleagues, chiefs at Lane7 - which have 18 sites around
the UK, offering pool, ten-pin bowling, beer pong, karaoke, arcades, bumper cars, ping pong and drinks - are launching the 5pm Club. Boss Gavin Hughes said: “Who knew Gary from IT was such
a good bowler? Well, right now, no one does. “After work socialising needs a bit of a pick-me-up, and that’s exactly what The 5pm Club at Lane7 will do. “Nothing helps teams build bonds more
than some healthy competition and competitive socialising. No more board reports or Monday morning meetings, it’s all about bowling and drinks from now on!” MOST LIKELY TO CLOCK OFF WORK
