THE DOCTOR ON TRIAL FOR DIEGO MARADONA’S DEATH HAS BEEN CELEBRATING WINNING A BODYBUILDING COMPETITION IN ARGENTINA AS HE SHOWED OFF HIS JACKED PHYSIQUE 15:54, 16 May 2025 The doctor on
trial for Diego Maradona’s death has been celebrating winning a bodybuilding competition. Leopoldo Luque was the doctor who requested the Argentine legend’s discharge and his subsequent
subdural hematoma surgery on November 3, just weeks before the footballer’s death at the age of 60 later that month in 2020. The 44-year-old neurosurgeon has shocked onlookers with his
incredible physique during the opening days of the trial into Maradona’s death. And it’s now become clear why he is building such a striking look. Luque competed under the name Leo Luque in
the Rock Hard Physique Championship organised by the National bodybuilding Committee (CNF). He won several categories of the bodybuilding competition in Argentina, winning the True Novice,
Novice and Masters +40 divisions, and finishing second in Open Class B. Article continues below Luque is in court accused by surgeon Rodolfo Benvenuti of falsifying a report and falsely
stating that he was the one who performed Maradona’s last operation. "If I'm responsible for anything with Diego, it's to love him, to care for him, to extend his life, and to
improve it until the very end. I did the impossible for that: I got him access to a psychologist, a psychiatrist... I achieved what no one else could," declared Leopoldo Luque.
"I'm ashamed of some of the messages I sent. I regret it and apologise to his family and the people who loved him very much. I'm not responsible for all of this. I'm not
afraid of going to jail," he commented. The surgeon considered that Luque, who was a neurosurgeon but specialised in back surgeries, "was not up to the task" of operating on
the idol, a decision supported by the World Cup winners’ daughters. Article continues below Maradona underwent surgery for a haematoma between his skull and brain weeks before his death and
was kept in intensive care at Los Olivos clinic between November 4 and 11, 2020. He was then sent to recover at a private home where he died.
