LIVERPOOL ARE LOOKING TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THEIR SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW BUSINESS, WITH FLORIAN WIRTZ AT THE TOP OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS' SHORTLIST 08:03, 29 May 2025Updated 08:06,
29 May 2025 Liverpool are reportedly set to focus on offloading Darwin Nunez once they have secured a deal to bring Florian Wirtz on board. The Reds are in talks to sign the golden boy of
German football from Bayer Leverkusen in what is anticipated to be a record-breaking transfer for the club – and the newly-crowned Premier League champions are already strategising ways to
recoup some of the expenditure. Arne Slot is eager to finalise the club's transfer business early this summer, with Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, his team-mate from Leverkusen, poised to
join. Right-back Frimpong, 24, has already consented to a £29.5million move and a five-year contract, while Liverpool are believed to have tabled an initial bid of €100m (£85m) plus add-ons
for attacking midfielder Wirtz. Leverkusen are holding out for a higher offer, valuing the 22-year-old at more than £100m. If the German outfit get their desired price, it would set a new
record for Liverpool, whose priciest acquisition remains the £85m – comprising £64m plus add-ons – they shelled out for Nunez, 25, from Benfica in June 2022, after former manager Jurgen
Klopp backed his purchase. Liverpool have funds at their disposal following last summer's sole signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus, but they also plan to boost their coffers by
selling surplus players. Nunez, who started just eight Premier League matches under Slot this season, is expected to be sold this summer after contributing only seven goals and seven assists
in 47 games. That's in stark contrast to the 18 goals and 15 assists in 54 games he registered under Klopp the previous campaign, when he started 21 matches in the Premier League. The
Daily Mail has claimed Liverpool are on the hunt for a buyer for Nunez, with plans to pump the proceeds into securing a fresh striking ace. Atletico Madrid are reportedly in the frame for
snatching up the Uruguayan international, and it looks like a deal could benefit everyone involved, reports the Mirror. Liverpool's eyes are set on Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo
Ekitike, but they're also keeping tabs on Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Atleti's Julian Alvarez. Ekitike, the 22-year-old French sensation, comes with a price tag of £84m from
Frankfurt after an impressive haul of 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 outings this term. His talents have also attracted interest from Chelsea, and Frankfurt's sporting director Markus
Krosche has acknowledged they might be pressed to offload the hotshot. "He's one of the most interesting strikers on the European market. "Hugo has to decide that," he
confessed to Sport 1. "I'm glad we have him. If he decides otherwise, that's our motto: If a player develops faster than us, we let him go." Article continues below
Earlier in the season, Slot had to tackle rumours claiming Nunez was warming the bench to sidestep an additional £4.2m payment to Benfica – claims he vehemently dismissed. The Uruguay
international's tenure on Merseyside might be drawing to a close, as Slot seems eager to capitalise on his charge's promise. Slot shared his thoughts, revealing: "I don't
know exactly what is going to happen. One of the main strengths we had this season is that everybody accepted his role. "And his role sometimes could be to start every single game,
hardly be taken off, sometimes be taken off. It could be sometimes not starting every single game, sometimes not playing hardly minutes."
