Sky has dropped the first teaser for Joe Wright’s upcoming eight-part series chronicling the birth of fascism in Italy and Benito Mussolini’s rise to power, ahead of its world premiere at
the 81st edition of Venice Film Festival. Award-winning Italian actor Luca Marinelli plays Mussolini. Based on the bestselling novel by Antonio Scurati, the series is produced by Sky Studios
and Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment, a Fremantle group company, in coproduction with Pathé, in association with Small Forward Productions, in collaboration with Fremantle, Cinecittà S.p.A.,
and Sky. Per details released by the producers: “The series will tell the history of a country that surrendered to dictatorship, and the story of a man who was able to rise from his ashes
time and again.” WATCH ON DEADLINE They said it will also provide insight into Mussolini and his personal relationships, including with his wife Rachele, his lover Margherita Sarfatti, and
with other iconic figures from the time. The series spans the period from the founding of _Fasci Italiani_ in 1919 through to Mussolini’s infamous speech in parliament following the murder
of socialist MP Giacomo Matteotti in 1925. The show is among TV series selected by Venice to play Out of Competition this year alongside Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV+ Series _Disclaimer_,
Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s _The New Years_ and Thomas Vinterberg’s _Families Like Ours_.
