miami marine stadium was originally built for power boat racing in 1964 and was designed by architect hilario candela. the modernist building located at virginia key, consisted of a
cantilevered roof and was one of the largest spans of unsupported concrete in the world. over time the stadium’s use changed and was not just limited to water sports. a floating stage was
built to allow the stadium to host concerts and other major events. when the city was hit by a hurricane in 1992, the building ceased use. in a new effort to revitalise this once admired
building the city of miami has declared it a landmark structure. plans have yet to be released regarding its refurbishment. READ MORE: http://www.marinestadium.org/index.html ridhika naidoo
