an array of rainbow hues are set to invade new york city this summer as the color factory brings its collaboratively-produced art experience to the big apple. the prismatic art installation


promises to invite curiosity, discovery and play with a series of participatory installations of color collected around the city.


 


the color factory originally opened in san francisco last year, intended to last for just four weeks. because of its popularity however, the exhibition unexpectedly flourished as a


celebration of color and creativity that lasted for another eight sold-out months. the second palette, set to open in new york in august, will encompass 20,000 square feet of exhibit space, 


16 mind-blowing installations.


 


as before, a huge list of local and national creatives have been enlisted to make it happen. ‘inspired by the colors of the city’, installation vary with each one encouraging an awakening


when it comes to color. visitors can expect art from illustrator jason polan (every person in new york), an ombre floating balloon room, a luminous dance floow and a room where you can


discover your ‘secret color’. beyond the exhibit itself, guests will receive a secret NYC neighborhood map, which directs you to over 20 unique color experiences located throughout downtown


manhattan.


 


the color factory new york opens on august 20 at 251 spring street in soho, open thursday–tuesday, 10 AM–11 PM. general admission tickets are on sale now.


 


meanwhile, people in the city can check out ‘manhattan color walk,’ color factory’s free installation located in the garden at the cooper hewitt, smithsonian design museum. the piece


features 265 colors sourced from all over manhattan, and painted on a sidewalk.
