Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has suggested the insurance companies to include robotic surgeries in their health insurance cover. Robotic surgeries (File Photo) Robotic
surgery is becoming a new norm these days. In renowned hospitals of India too, robotic surgeries are successfully performed by doctors who come from abroad. However, most insurance policies
don't cover robotic surgeries. But now with new experiments continuously happening in the medical field, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) has suggested the
insurance companies to include robotic surgeries in their health insurance cover. If robotic surgeries come under the insurance cover then Indians will not require to go abroad for getting
such surgeries done and they can easily avail it in any Indian hospitals. Robotic surgery is an advanced form of minimally invasive surgery where patients experience less pain, less blood
loss, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker return to normal activity in comparison with people who undergo open surgery. However, patients don’t prefer to undergo robotic surgeries mainly
because there no insurance cover for it, say doctors. Robotic surgery doesn’t only provide benefits to the patient but surgeons also greatly benefit from robotic surgery, gaining enhanced
precision, flexibility, control and vision. PATIENT BENEFITS - More precise surgery - The small size and flexibility of the robotic instruments makes it easier to remove the abnormality
without affecting surrounding healthy structures accomplish. - Significantly less pain - Less risk of infection and blood loss - Your surgeon makes tiny incisions rather than large ones,
lowering the risk of infection or blood loss. - Earlier discharge from the hospital - Generally, patients can go home earlier following a robotic surgery, sometimes even the next day. - Less
scarring and shorter recovery - The smaller incisions also mean that your recovery period is shorter. Sometimes, recovery may last just a few days. - In many cases, better clinical outcomes
SURGEON BENEFITS - An enhanced visual field - Surgeon has a superior view of the operating area. The high-definition camera provides a magnified, detailed view of the affected area. -
Superior dexterity - The robotic instrument exceeds the dexterity and range of motion of the human hand. The arms can rotate a full 360 degrees. - Access to hard-to-reach places - The
enhanced flexibility and precision of the robot allows your surgeon to access hard-to-reach areas.
