Cops took ‘custody’ of the camel that was spotted at Lal Darwaza in the middle of the night. It seems that butchers in the city are targeting every animal that's edible! After cows,
calves and buffalos, it's the turn of a camel. On Monday night at 1:30 am, a local resident spotted a camel near Lal Darwaza and informed the Karanj police about it. He told the cops
that the camel might be in danger of being slaughtered. Karanj police immediately rushed to the spot and took 'custody' of the camel. When the police arrived at the spot, the
camel was unattended. However, when police took the camel with them and kept it near the police station, some 30 to 40 persons came there and asked the cops to hand over the camel to them.
Meanwhile, animal activists of Geetaben Rambhia Trust also learned about the incident and rushed to the police station. According to KS Savani, police inspector of Karanj, there was a
strong possibility that the camel was brought to the city to be slaughtered and so the police refused to hand it over to the locals. "Presence of a camel in an area like Lal Darwaza
raised our suspicion, so we didn't give it the locals and handed it over to the trust," said Savani.
