The shopkeepers inform that with the work going on since the past nine months the number of customers coming to Kishanpol bazaar is diminishing. The road construction work at Kishanpol

bazaar is still incomplete Diwali is round the corner but the ongoing smart city project works in Kishanpol market of the Walled City is making the shopkeepers a worried lot as they are

looking for customers. The shopkeepers inform that with the work going on since the past nine months the number of customers coming to Kishanpol bazaar is diminishing. “We close shops by 8

pm since there are no customers because of the road work. Earlier, here shops used to remain open past 10 pm,” said a shopkeeper. Now with Diwali approaching, this market has a large number

of shops selling fire crackers, utensils, almirah, bicycle’s etc but the shopkeepers are not able to cash in on the festive occasion due to the laid back attitude of the contracting firm.

“We have been meeting the authorities and they have assured us that by November 1 the roads in the market will be opened for public. It has been months that the customers are not able to

come here due to this work and we are suffering. We just hope that once the road is opened the market looks good and customers start coming,” said Manish Khunteta, president of Kishanpol

Vyaapar Mandal. Currently the work of constructing the road is going on and out of the 7 meter road width, about half is closed due to ongoing works while the traffic on the remaining half

has been started. The work of making the cemented road is being done and it is hoped that it will be complete soon. Then the work of making the divider and putting the electricity poles will

be left to be done before the traffic is started. Smart city officials meanwhile assured that the work is towards completion and traffic on road will resume from November 1 or 2. “The road

part where traffic will move has been completed on October 20 and the laying of road has been done. Most probably the road will be opened on November 1 or 2” said Suresh Kumar Ola, CEO of

Smart City Limited, Jaipur. SMART CITY PROJECT Currently the work of watering the road on a portion is being done and after that some finishing work will also be done. The customers are now

starting to go to markets for Diwali shopping and the shopkeepers here hope that by this time the road work is completed so that they can welcome the customers.
