As many as four people were injured after a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then went on to hit the traffic signal post after its

brakes allegedly failed. The incident took place on Sunday morning at 10:30 am at Shagun Chowk on Laxmi Road. The bus was on its way to Alka Talkies when the signal turned red. The driver,

Ravindra Bhosale, then realised that the brakes had failed. He then dashed into the auto-rickshaw and then the traffic signal which helped the bus to halt. In the process, two pedestrians

and the two people in the auto-rickshaw got injured. A police officer at Vishrambaug police station said, “The injured were rushed to Poona and Sahyadri hospitals. A mother-daughter duo who

was crossing the road suffered minor injuries.”  “We have taken the driver in custody. An eyewitness claimed that the driver of the bus had great presence of mind or else the number of

causalities would have been more,” he said.  Chief engineer of PMPML Sunil Burse, said, “It is the responsibility of the bus driver to check the condition of the bus before leaving the

depot. All bus drivers are given 30 minutes everyday to inspect the vehicle before leaving the bus depot. Any complaint received from the bus drivers is dealt with on priority basis.” Burse

added, “In this case, the driver of the bus should have applied the hand brake. We will check the fault of the bus and action will be taken accordingly. Be it the driver or the workshop

mechanic, whoever is responsible will face action.”
