The report itself is all set to create controversy as the Zilla Parishad education department alleges that the students’ audit was not done in the correct manner. Even as the report of

students’ audit contains names of some prominent schools in the city, the report itself is all set to create controversy as the Zilla Parishad education department alleges that the students’

audit was not done in the correct manner. The audit report, a copy of which is in possession of _DNA_, names reputed schools like Deccan Education Society’s Ahilya Devi Girls High School,

HHPP Huzurpaga Girls High School on Laxmi Road, Renuka Swarup Girls High School, Sadana Vidhayala in Hadapsar and Shivaji Preparatory School for absenteeism. However, the authorities of

these schools, when contacted, claimed that their general absentee is in the range of 8% to 15% . Recently, the state cabinet has decided to withdraw the registration of the schools in the

state where the absentees in the school is above 50%. “The number of schools in the district is 1239 while the student strength is 16,19,998. At the end of the three-day audit, the figure

was found to be 14,93,149, which comes to around 7.83% absentees,” district collector Prabhakar Deshmukh had said in a press conference held in October. However, Zilla Parishad authorities

claim that the general absentee in the school on any given day is in the range of 10% to 12 % and the audit officers have not considered it. “Many schools work in shifts owing to space

constraints. The officers went during one shift but conducted the audit for the entire school.,” alleged ZP education officer (Secondary) Vidya Shinde.
