Das, the coach of Hima Das who became the first Indian woman world champion in athletics earlier this month, has been accused of sexual assault by another female athlete who he trained in
Guwahati. According to a report, the athlete, who did not reveal her name, said the incident took place at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati during her training session in May earlier this year.
According to the athlete's statement, Nipon forcefully dragged her inside the washroom after she requested the coach to leave. She alleged that Nipon undressed himself, jumped on her
and tried to remove her clothes. He also threatened her of suspension from training if she made the incident public. The victim's family reportedly filed a case against Nipon at the
Basistha police station in Guwahati on June 22. Nipon, however, said the charges were "false and fabricated". "My assistant coach and some other athletes were also
interrogated but all of them said they have not seen any such incident," he said.
