In a fresh development in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the Bombay High Court, after hearing the arguments from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer

Satish Maneshinde, has reserved its verdict on the bail pleas of Rhea and her brother, Showik. Both Rhea and Showik have been lodged in the jail for over 3 weeks now. While Rhea is in

Byculla jail, Showik has been lodged in Taloga Central jail. The development comes after the NCB had filed two affidavits on Monday in HC strongly opposing Rhea and Showik's bail pleas.

In the affidavit, the central intelligence agency told HC that the siblings were 'active members of a drug syndicate that was connected with high society personalities and drug

suppliers.' The NCB further said both Rhea and her brother had "abetted and financed" drug transactions. Therefore, the agency had booked them under the stringent section 27A

of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, it said in the affidavit. MORE STORIES FOR YOU✕ « Back to recommendation stories Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Anil Singh,

who appeared for the NCB, said, "A deterrent was required from the court since, considering the current situation of Covid-19, and the country's internal security, we need our

youngsters to take care of their health, and not consume drugs"."If young people go on consuming drugs then who will look after our country. This episode should serve as a lesson

to all," the ASG said."I agree there should be sympathy for the youth. But those who are involved in this (drugs consumption, manufacture, procurement etc) must be punished, Singh

said. The development comes after the lawyer of Chakrabortys, Satish Maneshinde, had argued in court that Section 27A did not apply to Rhea as she only 'occasionally' paid for

drugs consumed by her boyfriend Rajput, _PTI_ reported. Rajput (34) was found hanging in his home in suburban Bandra on June 14.
