the undersea cable has been offline since about 6.30am on Wednesday.

In a statement, the company said it is believed the issue relates to a piece of apparatus in Victoria, housed at its Loy Yang converter.

“Such an outage is not an unusual occurrence across the electricity network,” the statement said.

“Basslink is investigating the exact cause and hopes to have the issue rectified as soon as possible.

“The equipment at the centre of the outage is in no way related to the subsea cable fault which occurred on December 20.”

Basslink became operational last week after being broken for six months.
