in lump sums, totaling $1.5 million.


Two cases involved mesothelioma, two were for asbestosis, and one was for lung cancer.


The payments were made to cover disease treatment, rehabilitation expenses, and travel and funeral costs.


Compensation payments were $1 million less than the previous year.


The state’s Asbestos Compensation Commissioner anticipates there could be 14 compensation claims this financial year, totaling $6.4 million.


Half of these claims are expected to be for mesothelioma.


There is $17.4 million left in the Asbestos Compensation Fund.
