process stretched its all-conquering winning run to 13 matches in the clash towards sealing the Women’s Super League title.
The Reds outclassed City 4-0 on Saturday in a dominant display between the leading two contenders this year, with a mighty 16 shots on goal to one and 10 corners to two telling the story at
Prospect Park.
City had fronted up without five of its best lineup that included Beth Bygrave, Holly Savill and Kiara Walsh.
The hosts appeared the last challengers to the Reds’ title claim, still nine rounds out.
A Devils’ win would trim the lead from nine points back to a manageable six.
But Ulverstone’s clinical performance only increased the gap further over second-placed City to a near unassailable 12 points.
Lucy Reimer took charge early on, scoring twice in two minutes for the visitors.
An unmarked Reimer gave Ulverstone the 18th-minute lead from a set piece.
That was followed by a curling shot from a tight angle that ensured her sixth WSL goal of the season.
Ulverstone were up three goals in just 23 minutes after Jazmine Gorrie slotted one from the penalty spot.
But the victory was sullied late when Elizabeth Wells was stretchered off the pitch into an ambulance.
Wells suffered a serious leg injury after a tackle from City captain Selina Steventon.
