outstanding success at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships in Canada in July, where he won 13 gold and two silver medals, broke seven world records and was named the T21 swimmer
of the championships.
Miller, 24, trains with the South Esk Swimming Club.
His clubmates Kit De Jonge, Morgen Hawkins and Rebecca Clarke, were also among the winners.
De Jonge, 20, was named the stroke champion in butterfly, freestyle (50m-400m) and the individual medley. Hawkins, 20, was breaststroke champion. And Clarke, 12, was the 11 year age group
trophy winner and a recipient of the inaugural Eastern Shore Sharks Scholarship. South Esk’s Brenda Hawkins was volunteer of the year. Patrick Roberts, 19, of Burnie, was backstroke
champion.
Hobart Aquatic’s Stefanie McCarthy, 15, took out swimmer of the year, as well as swimmer’s swimmer of the year, and stroke champion in the individual medley and freestyle (both distance and
50-400m events).
Swimming Tasmania, the sport’s governing body in the state, has yet to reveal the complete list of winners.
In previous years the awards have been handed out at the annual community day or at regional championships. However, the 2017-18 awards will be formally presented at the state sprint and
relay championships in Launceston in February.
Seventh heaven Seven state records were broken at the Masters Swimming Tasmania long course long distance championships at Clarence Aquatic Centre on November 24.
Stefanie McCarthy Diane Perndt (Talays) and Tony Forman (Hobart Aquatic Centre) each claimed two records while John Pugh (Launceston), Kathryn Osborne (Hobart Dolphins) and Jessica Last
(Devonport) claimed one each.
No stopping Noah Noah Kamprad (Hobart Aquatic) set new 13 years state and all-comer records in 400m freestyle at a Hobart time trial, in a time of 4:17.84, breaking Jacob Vincent’s previous
records.
Clinic date Coach Wayne Lawes will take a JX clinic in Hobart on December 1 focusing on starts and turns, while Gaye Rutherford will talk about nutrition.
Swim off Two swimming events were cancelled on the November 24-25 weekend.
A time trial in Hobart was called off due to a shortage of officials; while the Carlton Park Surf Festival was cancelled due to unfavourable weather.
The surf festival, including the first event in this year’s ocean swim series, is set to take place on Saturday, December 1.
