A debate has been sparked among Scarborough residents following a rise in camper vans parking overnight in the popular seaside town - after a spoof multi-storey car park plan for the

seafront was mooted. The issue has long been a problem for the town as people claim designated parking for the large camper vans is poor. This often means the vans are left to park along the

seafront - which can cause issues for both visitors and residents. A joke post on the 'What's On in Scarborough' page featured a spoof image of a 'multi-storey car

park' for camper van owners on the beach, and triggered a large conversation around the issue. The original poster wrote: "The general consensus among locals and visitors is that

implementing reasonably priced paid parking in designated spots along Marine Drive would be beneficial. "This would help manage parking more effectively while improving the visitor

experience. Clearly marked spaces would reduce confusion and enhance accessibility for both residents and tourists. "During most nights, Marine Drive remains largely empty, making it an

ideal location for visitors. Funding from parking fees could support improvements such as dog washing facilities, surfboard washing areas, and enhanced play spaces. Rejecting proposals

without suggesting alternatives does not benefit the community." However, a number of others also proposed solutions to the camper van issue. Another person said: "The debate

rolling on...... But notice none of the owners answered realistically any possible solutions. Places across the UK are having the same debates and seem to be heading down one route at

present. "We have coach parks, lorry parks - so why not camper van parks. Ban them from small carparks, side streets and outside houses. Blackpool looks like the first to do, with

Scotland, Wales and Devon and Cornwall not far behind. We already have park and ride, so we already have an operational solution." Yet another added: "Compulsory purchase land near

Scalby Mills. I think the land maybe part of a golf course? That would be a great location for tourers and motor homes. They could walk down onto the promenade and then catch a bus at what

use to be the corner cafe. Being at Scalby Mills, supermarkets like Tesco express and the new Aldi isn't that far as well as the supermarket at the old corner café area." One more

person wrote: "I'm not a campervan user, would love one but unfortunately cannot afford. I can't understand all this fuss about them, surely a simple solution would be to have

a designated car park for overnight stays, with a shower block, toilets and large bins for any waste, and then just charge a fee (not extortionate)." Adding: "They could employ

someone to take payments and ensure no mess is left. If they do leave any mess then they get fined and kicked off. I'm sure if facilities were available, at a reasonable cost, they

would be welcomed. Why is it all so unnecessarily complicated." _GET ALL THE LATEST AND BREAKING NORTH YORKSHIRE NEWS STRAIGHT TO YOUR INBOX BY __SIGNING UP TO OUR NEWSLETTER HERE.__ _
