The Yorkshire Vet returned to TV screens on Thursday (29 May) with a new episode of the hit documentary series, which is now in its 20th season. The popular show follows vets including

Julian Norton, David Melleney, Matt Smith and Shona Searson as they venture out to help animals in the Huddersfield area and on Cannon Hall Farm. In the latest episode of The Yorkshire Vet,

viewers saw Peter Wright appear reluctant to cut a parrot's claws, while Julian operated on a Romanian rescue dog. Elsewhere, Shona was busy teaching horse and pony owners about equine

first aid. However, one vet had an emergency on his hands. Matt was called to Cannon Hall Farm to help with a horse who had sustained a very severe eye injury. "I've just had a

phone call from Phil and Georgie at Cannon Hall. They've just told me that Amber the Shire horse has got a nasty cut to her eye. It looks quite bad," Matt told the camera as he

drove to the farm. He added: "Amber is one of their favourite Shire horses. She actually came second at The Great Yorkshire Show last year when I was there." The vet went on to

reveal his concerns over Amber's eye, saying: "I'm a bit concerned as eyes are very, very tricky things to work with. They're even harder to try and stitch back together.

I'm getting there as quick as I can to see what I can do with it." Over at the farm, Georgie and Phil shared their own concerns about Amber's injury as they tried to comfort

her while waiting for Matt to arrive. "It doesn't look the best," Georgie said. "It could just be that she's done it on the fencing somewhere. It's not looking

great." Phil went on to reveal that the worst case scenario was that Amber would lose her eyelid or even her eye, if the injury was not treatable. Matt was able to treat Amber's

eye, despite her injury being in a "tricky" spot. He later headed back to the farm to check on how Amber was healing, and was impressed with her progress. "I think she was

very lucky to not actually damage the eye itself. The longer its left, the more swelling occurs and the more chance of infection," he said. _THE YORKSHIRE VET AIRS ON THURSDAYS ON
