We're approaching 'fight or flight' time. Will Sheffield Wednesday belie their quite frankly astonishing points tally of 96 and once again bow out early doors in the
play-offs? Or will they prove the doubters wrong and show that they're worthy of joining Plymouth and Ipswich in the Championship next term, and that they just wanted to do it the hard
but more entertaining way? We'll find out in the next week or so as Darren Moore's side face Peterborough United over two legs for the right to contest a Wembley showdown. The
play-offs can do funny things to managers, players and supporters. Expectation can breed nerves, perhaps shown in last year's attempt to navigate the end-of-season lottery. READ
MORE:Our predicted side to face Peterborough with two changes made The three hours of football played against Sunderland last May left fans feeling as if the Owls had passed up a golden
chance, and that an opportunity to go and attack the game had been missed in favour of trying to be too conservative. The plan, if indeed that was the plan, backfired as the Black Cats
pinched a late goal at Hillsborough to dump Wednesday out right at the death. Whilst his final pre-match press conference before this year's edition of the EFL's blue riband
competition begins saw him give little away, there is the sense that Moore is desperate to right the wrongs of last year. As well as highlighting Peterborough's threats, he also bigged
up his own side's dangers - and rightfully so. This is a Wednesday team that has not so much broken long-standing club records but smashed them out of the park. They have shown, by
nearly amassing a century of points, that they are capable of swatting aside most teams. They need just a handful of more big performances to avoid seeing all that hard work go to waste.
Another reason Moore wants to deliver the success that is badly overdue at S6 is for those colleagues who surround him on a day-to-day basis - many of whom are not just long-time employees
of the club, but supporters too. A promotion this season would be as much for the staff behind the scenes at Hillsborough, a vast majority of whom are staunchly bought into the
blue-and-white cause. "I'd love to be able to predict what percentage of staff members here are Wednesdayites, but what I can say is it's a large amount!" Moore told
_YORKSHIRE LIVE._ "There's a lot of them. Whether I'm down at the stadium or the training ground, I feel the energy from them because it's been passed down from
generations. There's a real support for the club here and a lot of the staff being supporters is really incredible. I get that and I understand it and it's wonderful to be able to
share that. There's a couple of Wednesdayites within the squad too, so there's fans all over - you can't escape!" This represents Moore's third experience of the
play-offs. As well as last year's near-miss he experienced the opposite emotions during his playing days. A successful campaign with Derby County in 2006-07 saw him play a big role in
them toppling Southampton over two legs before seeing off his old side West Brom at Wembley to earn a Premier League spot. Recalling those memories, he added: "What a memorable
experience that was. They were two wonderful games against Southampton but it was split margins that decided it. We managed to get on the right side of it in the final too, which was great.
"But I know football and that's why you have to stay consistent. It can take you to areas you never thought possible." Let the madness begin. READ NEXT:
