Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes that Huddersfield Town have taken a “gamble” by appointing Lee Grant as their new manager. Grant was confirmed as Town’s new boss on Wednesday, with
the 42-year-old leaving his first-team coach position at Ipswich Town to take on his first managerial role with the Terriers, where he has penned a three-year deal. The former Derby County,
Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley goalkeeper made more than 500 senior appearances in his playing days before retiring in 2022, where he went on to join the Tractor Boys in a coaching
capacity. Grant was a forwards coach at Ipswich, where the Blues netted 193 goals across two league campaigns en route to securing back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier
League, prior to being relegated from the top flight last term. Whilst acknowledging the risk attached to the appointment, Goodman cited other bosses who have had immediate success upon
transitioning into management for the first time. “He’s got no experience, but then you would argue that his boss, Kieran McKenna at Ipswich, didn’t have any experience. Chris Davies at
Birmingham City didn’t have any experience either,” the pundit told Football League World shortly before his appointment was confirmed. “Everybody has to start somewhere. At the level,
Huddersfield would be very ambitious to get back to the Championship as soon as possible. “It would be a gamble, there’s no doubt about that. The only way we will ever know whether it would
be too big of a first job for him is if he got the job and he either succeeded or failed – it’s a really difficult one.” SUBSCRIBE TO THE HUDDERSFIELD TOWN NEWSLETTER Never miss a breaking
