Sheffield Wednesday have been charged with multiple breaches of English Football League regulations relating to payment obligations. The Owls, who finished in the top half of the
Championship last term, are currently in a state of limbo, with the late payment of full monthly salaries for May extending from senior players and non-playing staff to lower-paid,
non-footballing employees. It is the second time in three months that players and staff have not received their monthly wages on time. The delay puts Wednesday at risk of a a three-window
transfer embargo. A report from The Star says Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has attempted to raise funds from external sources in recent days to resolve the latest unpaid wages issues.
The Thai businessman has been in charge of the Championship side for over a decade and last month said there had been "no substantial interest" in buying the club after fans
protested against his ownership. Multiple outlets have since reported that a Florida-based consortium had two takeover bids turned down. The EFL have today released a statement confirming
the Owls have been charged with multiple breaches of their rules. The statement added: "The owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, has also been charged with causing the club
to be in breach of EFL regulations despite his commitment to fund the cash requirements of the club. "All charges relate to both the Ultimate Beneficial Owner and the Club failing to
meet their obligations to pay players' wages on time and in full in March and May 2025. "The club and Mr Chansiri have 14 days to respond to the charges."
